It's easy to think of 'aftermarket' as a dirty word, but that's not always the reality of things. In the world of cellphone repair aftermarket applies to nearly every part that can be installed on a device. Many people believe (and many shops lead people to believe) that the parts they have in stock are OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts, and in some cases, such as samsung phone repairs, this can and often is the case. However Apple Inc. has always refused to sell repair parts to the public, and therefore OEM parts for iPhones do not exist in the wild. All replacement parts for Apple products that can be publicly purchased are either refurbished original parts, or they are aftermarket parts. Macrumors just posted an article detailing what goes into making an aftermarket part and we thought it was an interesting and informative read!
